THE VINEYARD IS IN MY FAMILY STORY.
I am Catalan. My grandfather was a winegrower. WINE ELSE? begins with that inheritance, not with a business plan.
An idea born in Perpignan: give the people, places and wines of Languedoc and Roussillon the thoughtful international attention they deserve.
A family connection, not a marketing invention.
My grandfather worked as a winegrower. That simple fact is part of why this project matters to me. I do not claim to speak for his generation, nor to know the story of every producer. I do know that wine is more than a bottle, a label or a score. It is work carried out across seasons, with consequences for people and landscapes.
I was born into a Catalan heritage. Perpignan and Roussillon are not convenient marketing coordinates for me: they are part of my identity. If this initiative has a voice, it should be rooted here rather than borrowing the language of a luxury agency far away.
Why I am looking toward America.
The United States is full of wine enthusiasts, sommeliers, restaurants, educators and cultural communities willing to discover something meaningful. Yet the names Languedoc and Roussillon can still require an introduction for those who have never visited. A welcoming, accurate English-language resource can make those first steps easier.
I am not asking Americans to abandon Burgundy, Bordeaux, California or anywhere else. I am inviting them to see another facet of French wine: Mediterranean landscapes, mountain influences, distinct grapes and the people whose choices give each wine its character.
I am not a merchant or an importer.
WINE ELSE? does not sell bottles, collect payments for wine, promise availability, ship alcohol or claim to represent a producer. That is deliberate. The early mission is editorial and human: listen, learn, explain and connect interested adults to the right licensed professionals when appropriate.
At this stage I am contributing my time out of passion and conviction. No financial contribution or remuneration is requested from growers or prospective cultural allies. Should the project later create real value and develop a sustainable business model, financial relationships will be disclosed openly and conducted within applicable rules.
No invented partners. No borrowed prestige.
The platform is a prototype. The else.wine domain has not been registered. I have not assembled a roster of partner estates or secured endorsements from influential people. I will not put a winemaker's name or face behind my idea without permission.
What I want first is honest feedback: what is useful, what is inaccurate, which voices deserve attention and which connections make sense. Trust should come before publicity.
What success would mean to me.
A young American wine enthusiast discovers what Roussillon means. A sommelier tells a customer why a wine made from Grenache, Carignan or Macabeu deserves a place at the table. A producer recognizes the truth of the story written about their work. A relationship begins because somebody took time to introduce the right people.
That is a more meaningful beginning than a grand launch announcement. If it grows, we will grow it without losing sight of why it started.
“I am not a winegrower. I am the grandson of one. And I believe the wines of my homeland deserve to be discovered.”
